DMD Posted July 31 Share #1 Posted July 31 What do I have here? I don't know much about bullion, but the back suggests Italian made. Is there anything about it that indicates where or when the wings were made?
B-17Guy Posted July 31 Share #2 Posted July 31 My opinion is immediate post WWII US made pilot wing, made for the new USAF blue uniform. I have a similar FE wing. John
rathbonemuseum.com Posted July 31 Share #3 Posted July 31 I would agree with John based on the material and shade of the underlying fabric. Bullion was very popular in the early USAF period.
DMD Posted July 31 Author Share #4 Posted July 31 That's what I was thinking. If I saw the bullion on blue part alone, I would have said early USAF. What about the thick part the bullion is attached to? As I said, it looks Italian to me. Is that a good guess? I wondered if it could have been made in post war Italy using a US made bullion wing. Whatever it is, I like it.
