Sgt. BARney Posted July 28, 2024 #1 Posted July 28, 2024 Hello All, I recently acquired this 10-inch 78RPM record of the Double HH Cowboys, listed as soldiers of the US Army. The label states it is an American Red Cross record produced by the Gramophone (HMV) company. The Gramophone/HMV info points to it having been produced in England and the song "Pistol Packin' Mama" dates it to 1943 at the earliest. My best guess is the record was produced in England by the Red Cross during WW2 for entertainment of Allied troops, similar to the V-Disc program. I cannot find any information on the Double HH Cowboys. Has anyone heard of them? Perhaps they were an informal group of musically talented soldiers, or maybe recognized musicians (in civilian life) who were caught up in the draft. Perhaps the name "Double HH" is a clue? Were there any US Army units that were nicknamed "Double HH" or used a double HH in the unit insignia similar to the double AA's in the 82nd Airborne patch. Any info you can share is greatly appreciated and my sincere thanks in advance for all help!
