Threewood Posted July 22 Share #1 Posted July 22 So I find it interesting that there is no section for LeVelle under "Hallmarks" or under "Manufacturer / Patterns". The standard graduation wings (4 lines, 3 lines in the shoulder) are attributed to LeVelle and seem very plentiful. Have these been found carded and if so does anyone have pictures. I just purchased this LeVelle wing from ebay for an acceptable amount, considering I think it falls on the hard to find side of wing manufacturers because it is hallmarked. The CB pins look the same on very few other pictures I have found on this site. Different from LGB and Meyer 2nd pattern. How rare are LeVelle wings, and what patterns are hallmarked? 5thwingmarty Posted July 22 Share #2 Posted July 22 This pattern Aircrew wing matches that also used by Gemsco. You can also find Aerial Gunner wings that have this same raised LeVelle makers mark, but the style of the AG wings is completely different. AG wings in this exact shieldless pattern can also be found only marked Sterling. The notches in the shoulders and a feather detail on the AG wings that is carried over to the other non-hallmarked wings attributed to LeVelle, and the placement of the Sterling mark on the right side is also an indicator of LeVelle wings. Here is my LeVelle marked AG wing and a LeVelle patter pilot wing for comparison.
5thwingmarty Posted July 22 Share #3 Posted July 22 Also, here is my LeVelle AG wing wing a similar two-piece shieldless wing that I have seen others attribute to LeVelle. I do not believe these two-piece wings are actually from LeVelle as they have different feather details, but they are similar.
danimal03 Posted July 23 Share #4 Posted July 23 Nice wings. I have been chasing wings for about 10 years now. In active looking, I have seen only two marked LeVelle marked aircrew wings marketed for sale. I bought one of them and have a pin back version in my collection. I let the other one go. I sometimes buy a second as future trade, but I figured they are so rare that I would let another collector a chance to acquire one. And it sold quickly. My two cents anyways. Nice find. You don't see the hallmarked wings show up very often so they don't seem to be very common. I have only seen the air crew and aerial gunner patterns with the LeVelle hallmark. Tesla Posted July 24 Share #6 Posted July 24 Here are the LeVelle wings I have found. All are 3" wings with the exception of the aircrew which is 3 1/4".
5thwingmarty Posted July 25 Share #7 Posted July 25 LeVelle also had 3" Aircrew wings in the same pattern as the other wings, and also had 3" Aerial Gunner wings in the targetless pattern that were not hallmarked. They also had 2" wings in at least some of the ratings including Pilot and Aerial Gunner. Some of these 2" wings in this pattern are marked Goodwear Fabrics. Threewood Posted July 25 Author Share #8 Posted July 25 I find it fascinating the air crew pattern I posted was the only rating in that pattern.
