I was given a WWII Civil Defense helmet which had been painted gray over the white. I was able to easily great the gray paint off with acetone. The liner is good and I had one of the bales reattached. I am considering restoring the help by removing the white paint and repainting it and have a friend paint the CD emblem on it. However, I don't know the correct color of the white. Does anyone know or have a suggestion? Thanks.

The white is definitely not a bright white..  an off white?  Here’s a photo of mine, as found.  I’ve seen decals for sale (eBay?) - you might consider a decal and match the white that’s on the decal).

 

Post some pics of what your helmet looks like now.. maybe it’s not that bad as it is.
