Attached are photos of my grandfather's replacement WWI Victory Medal he received on September 20, 1983, from the Army Records Center in St. Louis. Grandpa gave me this and his other medals along with the paperwork from St. Louis for Christmas that year. I have had this medal for 40 years and just got to looking more closely at it. The medal has a very unusual brooch with a wide flat open "C" bronze catch. Can anyone identify the maker? Or perhaps have one in a box that would give contract information?

Thanks for looking.

This medal does not look very original as a true government issue to me - the suspension ring is a thinner gauge wire tan the standard ring, the ribboning is not very good on the backside, The broach is not a government procurement as far as I know - These broaches were acquired and sold by a fellow long time collector named Cec Lawhon from Missouri in the 1980s (I bought a bunch of them to use as replacements).

All I can say is this came to grandpa directly from the Army Personal Records Center along with his Purple Heart and Mexican Border Service Medal, and then they came directly to me from him. If the box ever turns up, I will post it and maybe the information on the box will help solve the mystery.
