Decided to put together a LRRP impression for fun and for events.

My ERDL fatigues and a OD 107 shirt. Will post more tomorrow when I get some more pictures taken. What do you think?IMG_20240107_121108.jpg.3c4cb96749c43f65c1ba72d56e0b4575.jpgIMG_20240626_205017.jpg.08b6db1e3384778777cff734ad79b77c.jpg

Ok, remember, lrrp guys carried everything they needed with them, so they were loaded up. Keep that in mind for the gear you get…

Thank you,  I will keep that in mind.

Here are a few images of a LRRP/Vietnam exhibit I did some time ago at the US Army Sergeant's Major Academy. I chose not to put face paint on the mannequin as it is somewhat difficult to remove sometimes.

Some of the equipment (Strobe light, compass) were left out of the pouches in order to be seen by everyone. The lensatic compass belonged to Isaac "Ike" Camacho. He was born in Fabens, Texas, a small town right outside of El Paso, Texas. He was a Special Forces Soldier who was captured in North Vietnam in November 1963 and after 20 months of captivity, he escaped.  He gave the compass to a Special Forces Chaplain friend (John Szilvasy) who later gave it to me.

All gear on the LRRP was period authentic from my personal collection.

Great stuff... Slowly but surely you'll have all the items you need for a great impression.  The items are still out there..

Well done..

I just caught up to this and will comment elsewhere in the future so as not to hijack this thread but it brought back several good memories: CPT Camacho was my second CO at Ft. Bliss. His is quite the story. He was captured on the day JFK was assassinated.

Just a small update, found a repo of an in country made airborne patch, messaged the seller to see if they could or would make the long range patrol patch.

This is the patch I bought, looks pretty close.

This is what I'm hoping to reproduce. Hopefully they can produce the long range patrol tab.14844882.jpg.bd8eb79783091921bbd59ef3890363f1.jpg

Found a guy to make the long range patrol tab. I think it will work. What do y'all think.s-l960(1).jpg.15797cd76808acb59b0c772af6755eb0.jpg

This could pass as an original LRP tab with the crudeness of the uneven size and spacing of the lettering that you see at times on SVN made pieces.   Many times you come across misspelled wording and the "O" in LONG almost looks like a "U".  I don't know what the back looks like but if you sew this on a piece of cloth and put it in the sun with a couple of washing it would fool many collectors into thinking they are purchasing the real thing.  This is one of the unintended consequences of having something like this produced as once it leaves your hands or the producers hands those unscrupulous sellers in the collector's market will try and mostly succeed in selling this as the real McCoy.  It would be nice if the producer of this piece would take the time to take a black fine point permanent marker and write "REPRO" on the back.  An original tab similar to this one  just sold on eBay for $129.00.

I will do that before I sew them on. I'm not out to fool anybody's. Just make as authentic looking uniform as I can.
