5thwingmarty Posted June 18 #2 Posted June 18 They look real to me, and would be WWII period wings. AECo wings generally had somewhat "soft" or indistinct details and markings, and I don't think they were around long after WWII. Aircrew wings are common enough there is not much call to make cast copies of them, and I don't think anyone used their dies to strike wings later for collectors.
Kropotkin Posted June 18 #3 Posted June 18 Yes, WW2 period AE Co. aircrew wings. The manufacturer went out of business soon after the war, so these are easier to date than most.
pfrost Posted June 18 #5 Posted June 18 Agreed. Although I think that AECo actually went out of business in the 60s (I, too, thought they went out of business after WWII, but apparently not). Tod did a good job of researching American Emblem Co. in one of the past threads. Although they didn't seem to make wings past WWII. I couldn't quickly find Tod's excellent thread, but this may help. https://www.newhartfordhistory.com/blank
bschwartz Posted June 18 #6 Posted June 18 I believe this is the link that Patrick is referring to with Tod's research on the company. https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/375172-ae-co-or-american-emblem-co-of-utica-ny-company-history/
