nicolas75 Posted June 18, 2024 #1 Posted June 18, 2024 Hello to all is there antiques markets, military shop or some places where to buy militaria in South Korea (Seoul, Gyeongju, Busan, Jeju island) ? Thanks
aerialbridge Posted June 18, 2024 #2 Posted June 18, 2024 Man, isn't the Soju and HoeDeopBap - Sashimi Bibimbap and all the other good grub, and entertainment over there enough? You want militaria too? (jk)
DiGilio Posted June 19, 2024 #3 Posted June 19, 2024 Ive spent years in Seoul and have been to all those places. I've never tried to purposely seek out militaria, so I cant say much except that you are extremely unlikely to come across anything interesting by chance. Ive seen US militaria at a few markets or vintage clothing shops, but it is always either common things or priced too high. There are many (Korean) people interested in vintage items, collectibles, etc. and an awareness of what things are. Unless someone can give a promising recommendation, I would suggest just enjoying the trip. Korea has so much to offer.
nicolas75 Posted July 29, 2024 Author #4 Posted July 29, 2024 Thanks for your messages. is there not shop or flea market to take a chance ?
DiGilio Posted July 29, 2024 #5 Posted July 29, 2024 In case no one has a better recommendation, the biggest and most well-known flea market area in Seoul is around Dongmyo and Sinseol-dong stations. There is Dongmyo flea market, Seoul folk flea market, and Hwanghak-dong flea market. Dongmyo flea market would be the best bet, but they are all within walking distance of each other. In trendy areas like Hongdae there are also many vintage clothing shops catering to young people with a hand-picked inventory. Sometimes they have something military mixed in, but items might have been sourced from overseas and prices will be high. But if you pass by any it could be worth taking a minute to go inside and check it out.
ludwigh1980 Posted August 7, 2024 #7 Posted August 7, 2024 I found a sort of surplus shop outside of Osan Air Base. Been 10 years or so and I found a few Korean Army items as souvenirs. I went looking for Antique stores in Seoul and found very little in the so-called Antique District. Mostly stone carvings and such. Like DiGilio say's: enjoy the food, historical sites, Buddhist Temples and if you can the hiking trails. South Korea is such an under rated place to visit. I would like to go back. Try the Korean Fried Chicken!
