Nylon M16 Bipod Case and Cleaning Kit Case

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have some questions about these items.

I have always seen nylon bipod cases for sale, always looked repro and had a non marked bipod inside them. Are there USGI ones around? What markings do they have on them? What year did they come out? Where can I get an early one?

As far as the cleaning kit case, when did they start making these? Where can I find an early one? I know there are aftermarket ones in woodland camo, was there ever any USGI in woodland?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Dustin

If you go to the search function and enter "bipod case" there are 3 other threads beside the one you started that covers these cases.

I don't recall the earliest dated nylon cleaning kit but it was Vietnam dated. Probably 67 or 68. I don't think there are any issue cases in camo.

Im pretty sure the earliest nylon M16 cleaning kit cases were from 1968. Change No. 1, 2 February 1968 (titled "Rifle, 5.56-MM, M16A1) for FM 23-9, Rifle, 5.56-MM, XM16E1, 12 July 1966 clearly shows the second type cleaning rod that was made for the early open top bipod case with the single small pouch for cleaning rod. Although the second type cleaning rod had the new folding handle on the end of one of the sections, the sections of the cleaning rod (especially the section with the handle) were made long to fit the early bi-pod case. They are too long to fit in the nylon cleaning kit pouches.

I never have seen the nylon bipod cases on Vietnam era pictures, maybe someone can help me with that.

Do the nylon cases show up in Vietnam era M16 Manuals?
