Capt.Confederacy Posted June 17 Share #1 Posted June 17 I decided to post this item, a captured Japanese baseball/Menko card, given the humble nature of it to show that literally anything would be taken as a souvenir. Given the inscription on the back, i believe it was obtained by a Marine, and that this was taken in the middle of the Battle of Tarawa.
USCapturephotos Posted June 17 Share #2 Posted June 17 Oh man. That is special because of it's relation to Tarawa in my mind. Very cool. Paul
Mr. Bushido Posted June 17 Share #3 Posted June 17 This is interesting. As you may know, the type of writing inside the circle is hiragana and is the initial letter for "【やきゅう ya-kyu】baseball".

I didn't know what the writing meant whether it was baseball, a particular player, a school, etc. Thanks again.
Mr. Bushido Posted June 18 Share #5 Posted June 18 Also, as a side note, this card is part of a karuta deck. http://karuta.game.coocan.jp/karuta-e.html
otter42 Posted June 18 Share #6 Posted June 18 Maybe the Japanese soldier's child gave it to him before going to war, since it's a children's game. My kids would give me trinkets or their valuables when I'd be gone for awhile.
