I decided to post this item, a captured Japanese baseball/Menko card, given the humble nature of it to show that literally anything would be taken as a souvenir.  Given the inscription on the back, i believe it was obtained by a Marine, and that this was taken in the middle of the Battle of Tarawa.

Oh man. That is special because of it's relation to Tarawa in my mind. Very cool.

This is interesting.

 

As you may know, the type of writing inside the circle is hiragana and is the initial letter for "【やきゅう ya-kyu】baseball".

Thanks for the info.  I didn't know what the writing meant whether it was baseball, a particular player, a school, etc.

Maybe the Japanese soldier's child gave it to him before going to war, since it's a children's game. My kids would give me trinkets or their valuables when I'd be gone for awhile.
