mvmhm Posted June 2 Share #1 Posted June 2 Just before closing yesterday a man brought in some of his Grandfather's items, which included a few things from Okinawa. The sailor, Chester L. M a y e s) was a Motor Machinist Mate Third Class who served aboard LST 813. He brought back a mint Hinomaru (2X3) with paper corners and tie strings intact, a pair of chop sticks, and a couple Japanese booklets that have fold out graphs(?). There might be some more things coming...the grandson has the sailor's daily diary that he forgot to bring. Mark sends
danimal03 Posted June 2 Share #2 Posted June 2 Nice little group! I find it interesting when you see service members bring back a 'simple' item like chopsticks. I was stationed on Okinawa in the USMC, so I like artifacts from that campaign.
mvmhm Posted June 3 Author Share #3 Posted June 3 Mr. Bushido on the World Militaria Forum translated it: " This item is very interesting! It is a booklet outlining new policies established by the Japanese military headquarters. It seems that this policy began to be applied around 1941. The contents are about unit training, and in the square at the top right of the cover it says "Confidential".
