kiaiokalewa Posted May 30, 2024 #1 Posted May 30, 2024 Here's a small gathering of Tank related insignia but I wanted to focus on the chainstitched Tank School patch. It was nearly 30 plus years ago at the Drawbridge ASMIC Convention when I found this patch. Anyone remember Jack Brown? Yeah, I know but this was one of a few piece that was actually good and I didn't hesitate to grab it for the hundred fifty dollar price tag he had on it. Anyway, back to the patch, Tanks fell under the jurisdiction of the Chief of Infantry during the interwar years and the apex of its Shoulder Insignia would be representative of Infantry branch color blue. Whe the manufacturer of this particular insignia they intended the orientation of this patch to have the blue apex pointing upwards due to its thin blue border that wraps this multi color triangle. Its counter part is equally difficult to come across. The Distinctive Insignia was also intended to have its blue apex point upwards. This is not your typical WWII patch type DI but rather a rare screwback with red transparent enameled section.
kiaiokalewa Posted March 24, 2025 Author #4 Posted March 24, 2025 Here's an expansion of the Tank stuff back last year August, when my pal Marty was doing what he does best. We had a blast when I had to stay together with him during his covid lockdown at the live assist facility. Long story short I would never want to stay at a place like this after seeing how the are ruined and I was only there for 4 days. As I go through his estate now, all sorts of treasures are popping up. I'll continue to update it as I find new stuff. I did find a small collection of photos. I've zoomed in on some very nice details that the tankers are wearing from the 1st Tank Company.
Indian Head Posted March 24, 2025 #5 Posted March 24, 2025 Super interesting artifacts and photos, thank you for sharing
manayunkman Posted March 24, 2025 #6 Posted March 24, 2025 Never knew anything like this existed. Thank you
greek5bc Posted March 25, 2025 #7 Posted March 25, 2025 Hi are you interested by this extremely rare patch
trenchbuff Posted March 25, 2025 #8 Posted March 25, 2025 Thanks for posting the photo of Marty. He was quite a guy.

kiaiokalewa Posted March 26, 2025 Author #10 Posted March 26, 2025 Mark, Here's a throwback photo of me and Marty at the DeRussy Living History Day event back in late 90s. And another one on his 69th Birthday. He really loved getting that Medical patch it only took me 25 years to find one for him. The expression on his face tells it all. The Quartermaster variations shortly surfaced on eBay and he final had completed the entire set of Mechanized patches. I'll post the here once I dig them out again.
kiaiokalewa Posted March 26, 2025 Author #12 Posted March 26, 2025 1st Tank Company 1st and 6th Class Tank Specialist khaki coat. In a friend's collection.
kiaiokalewa Posted March 26, 2025 Author #13 Posted March 26, 2025 Here's the Mechanized patches and just about an complete set. Only there's an ordnance examples out there with the numerals 19 above the tracked canon.
kiaiokalewa Posted March 26, 2025 Author #14 Posted March 26, 2025 The seemingly innocent 7th Brigade loose patch above was once upon a time the scarce Provisional 1st Cavalry Regiment assigned to the 7th Brigade in 1933.
kiaiokalewa Posted March 26, 2025 Author #15 Posted March 26, 2025 Here's what a real one should look like. A red numeral above the tracked Canon. Anything with the black numerals whether a 1 or 7 are reproductions.
kiaiokalewa Posted March 26, 2025 Author #16 Posted March 26, 2025 Here's the example I have on uniform. Interesting that it has a buff color ring around the overall patch. What's really cool about this uniform is that it's complete with regimental DIs, and the Type II, 1st Armored Car disc.
Persian Gulf Command Posted March 26, 2025 #17 Posted March 26, 2025 Great early Armored (Tank Stuff)! Keep it coming!!
