Dirk Posted February 19, 2025 #26 Posted February 19, 2025 Omg I missed this post! These pieces are amazing! So much to study. I have the same 1924 Army vs Marines shooting badge…seeing Yuchang…he dominated the swagger stick market in Tientsin given the number of his piece that turn up.

kiaiokalewa Posted February 25, 2025 Author #28 Posted February 25, 2025 A set of ordinary Captain bars for the Tientsin officer, big deal.
kiaiokalewa Posted February 25, 2025 Author #29 Posted February 25, 2025 Well, not so fast. Checkout the hashmarks on the reverse side. Yeah, I'd say it's a BIG DEAL!!!
Allan H. Posted February 25, 2025 #30 Posted February 25, 2025 Those captain's bars are AMAZING! They really deserve their own thread in the ranks section of the forum. I would love to know what the translation turns out to be. Allan
katieony Posted February 25, 2025 #31 Posted February 25, 2025 An amazing collection! Thanks for sharing it!

Yeah, I'd say it's a BIG DEAL!!! I have a co-worker that has translated Kanji Characters for me in the past and will have her do the same here by the weeks ending. Judging from others she'd done it's probably the name of the artisan and indicating that he's a metal craftsman but I will get it translated shortly.
Sargavius Posted August 12, 2025 #34 Posted August 12, 2025 Wow, those are excellent pieces, interwar uniforms are my favourite and a piece like that would definitely be a great add to any collection
kiaiokalewa Posted August 17, 2025 Author #35 Posted August 17, 2025 Here's a neat Thanksgivings menu for Company H, 15th Infantry, towards the Ole' China Hands long and storied stay in the Far East. Note the Philippine Department insignia on the card stock. Although the 15th was under the USAFC the Department still had overall responsibility. Eventually I'll post the covers of about three dozen or so Thanksgiving/Christmas menus spanning from 1915-1938 when the 1st Battalion finally ended its involvement in Tientsin and returned back to the CONUS.
kiaiokalewa Posted February 13 Author #38 Posted February 13 From the interiors of May 3-4, 1929 Organization Day booklet.
kiaiokalewa Posted February 13 Author #39 Posted February 13 Lookie at that "Mounted Section"!!! I wonder if they had wooden riding crops?
kiaiokalewa Posted February 13 Author #40 Posted February 13 Here's the customs booklet issued to the troops during Col. Taylor's command.
kiaiokalewa Posted February 13 Author #41 Posted February 13 These medal awards are definitely covered under customs content. I wonder what the Machine Gun medal could have looked like.
Sargavius Posted February 13 #42 Posted February 13 Wow, these pieces are very interesting, the Customs of the 15th regiment is something really curious in my opinion, thanks for sharing.
Dirk Posted February 13 #43 Posted February 13 That customs book is simply an amazing resource!!!! A big thank you for sharing it and for continuing to post so many outstanding 15th Infantry items!!! here is a postcard from 1913-18 of the 15th Mounted
kiaiokalewa Posted February 13 Author #44 Posted February 13 I might as well marry up these images that I posted years ago in another thread. Here's me and Wailuna (the Dad) at a local gunshow when I gave him this banner for his Birthday. Dam, this had to have been at least 30 years ago! I know, I know, its out of focus. I'll take a better picture of it sometime soon as post it here.
Dirk Posted February 14 #45 Posted February 14 Dang that’s a nice embroidery!!!! I will wager that one is Chinese made vice Japanese by its appearance!
YNCM Doug Posted February 14 #46 Posted February 14 Yes, please post a higher resolution image. I would love to zoom in to see the beautiful artwork. Do you know who made the silk screen? Thank you

kiaiokalewa Posted February 15 Author #48 Posted February 15 15th Infantry Guard Mount. Note that three of the soldiers wear the elusive "The Proficiency of the Chinese Spoken Language Award" on their right sleeve cuffs! AKA: The Chung Patch
kiaiokalewa Posted February 15 Author #49 Posted February 15 Here's views of a well seasoned and worn Chung cuff patch and as described in the 15th Infantry Customs Guide. In my collection I have another cuff award in mint condition that is attached to a set of orders issuing it to the Corporal that earned his award. I'll share that here at some point too.
Sargavius Posted February 15 #50 Posted February 15 Speaking Chinese back then must've been really rare, it makes sense why these soldiers were sent to China. Did this patch continued to be worn after their time in China?
