Altomarevintage Posted May 27, 2024 #1 Posted May 27, 2024 Hello all. I’ve recently moved to a new place and my allotted space to display is a small back extension of the house. It has a side door to my deck n driveway. I’m a bit wary of the possible mixture of outside elements getting into my space. Is it my OCD or is this a true detriment to uniforms ill see within this lifetime. Lol
CAC1901 Posted May 27, 2024 #2 Posted May 27, 2024 Unless your house is hermetically sealed outside elements do get into your house, slowly but surely. Meanwhile the inside of a house has to deal with the residues of cooking food, people exhaling or respirating in it, hot showers, your heat source (oil, gas, wood? etc.) There is no perfect environment. The most important thing is keeping the room temperature stable, and keeping it dry. And keeping down dust and avoiding direct sunlight or bright light on fabrics, textiles, printed materials. etc. Keep the door closed when not using it. Cover uniforms whem you're not hanging out in the collection room. If it has windows get sheer curtains that let light in but filter sunbeams. Clean it regularly with a dust picker upper; swiffer etc. Its not rocket science. This stuff has lasted decades, even over a century, and things like leather, wool, cotton, woven goods etc can remain in nice condtion as long as you just keep it all indoors and out of the light and dust as much as possible.
Altomarevintage Posted June 3, 2024 Author #3 Posted June 3, 2024 Very very enlightening. Thanks a bunch
