Keep in mind paint ingredients back then were not today’s paint. Lacquer base was commonly used, ease of spraying, brushing, drying. Colors were natural carbon black, yellow ochre, etc additives. The black WW2 rounds I have are flat, very “ thin”, not the rattle can thickness of today’s paint.
