Voxman Posted May 15, 2024 #1 Posted May 15, 2024 Hello Everyone, I'm in the process of restoring some displays at our local VA clinic. They have been hanging on wall for quite some time and some of the patches have come loose and fallen down. Bought 2 display cases to redo the whole mess. I've got the patches done but am concerned some are not correctly oriented. I've found a few websites that have a number of these but I couldn't find all of the patches in question. Hoping if I post the photos of the patches I have laid out that the fine folks here can tell me if some of them are upside down or just plain wrong. If anyone can help spot the wrong ones, I'd be most appreciative and relieved I am honorably displaying the patches in their correct orientation. Not sure how we can communicate the specific patches but hopefully someone can figure out how to alert me to the ones that need changing. Thank one and all for any help, sincerely, Gary
digi-shots Posted May 15, 2024 #2 Posted May 15, 2024 Gary, great idea and looks good! I’m sure some other folks will be along but in the meantime.. 2 Special Forces need to be reoriented… first one is upside down second one should be placed horizontally and not vertically
Voxman Posted May 15, 2024 Author #3 Posted May 15, 2024 Wow! Great getting this info .... I knew some had to be wrong and I'm very grateful to discover which ones! Thanks Very Much !
Rakkasan187 Posted May 15, 2024 #4 Posted May 15, 2024 Gary,, The Subdued Airborne Tab that is with the subdued 3rd Infantry Division Patch should go with the subdued 82nd Airborne Patch in the lower left display box (The one with the USS Arizona Patch). The colored 78th Infantry Division patch is upside down. This is the half circle patch with the red background and white lightning bolt in the upper right in the box with the USS Arizona patch. The Subdued HONOR GUARD Tab should go above the subdued Military District of Washington DC. This patch is just above and to the right of the 82nd Airborne Division patch. The Military District of Washington patch is also upside down. The Subdued 10th Mountain Division patch is upside down. I can't make out the tab above the patch but it should be the MOUNTAIN Tab. This patch is in the display box that has the Vietnam 0-1 Birddog patch. The 10th Mountain Patch and tab are just to the right of the USS John W. Thomason patch. The color 196th Infantry Brigade patch is upside down. (This patch is to the right of the subdued 101st Airborne patch in the display box with the USS Arizona patch. The color 18th Engineer brigade patch is upside down. This patch is to the right of the 11th Light Infantry Brigade patch also in the box with the USS Arizona Patch. Some great looking patches and I am sure the at the VA Clinic will appreciate your efforts.. Best regards Leigh
Voxman Posted May 15, 2024 Author #5 Posted May 15, 2024 Leigh, Great info! You certainly know your military patches! I've corrected some (make that very few) of the patches you described. I'm not able to recognize which patches you refer to...without an actual text/number, I'm still pretty lost. Is there any way possible you can mark up the photos like "digi-shots did" above on his post? Otherwise I'll have to resort to counting columns and rows or describing an easily recognized patch next to the errant patch. Sorry to be so dense... Thanks so much kind sir! Gary
Rakkasan187 Posted May 15, 2024 #6 Posted May 15, 2024 Gary, I will see what I can do. I'm one of the old knuckle dragging infantry guys.. I'll figure something out.. Leigh
Voxman Posted May 15, 2024 Author #7 Posted May 15, 2024 Leigh, That’s okay. I working on it and might eventually get it all sorted out. 😎
Voxman Posted May 15, 2024 Author #8 Posted May 15, 2024 Leigh, With some effort I was able to sort out ALL of the corrections you detailed. I was just being lazy and put some brain power to work. I can’t thank you enough! Gary
Rakkasan187 Posted May 15, 2024 #9 Posted May 15, 2024 No worries Gary, Glad we could help you out with this great tribute to our Veterans.. You need anything else don't hesitate to reach out. Best regards Leigh
Voxman Posted May 15, 2024 Author #10 Posted May 15, 2024 Well.... now that you so graciously offered to help if needed again. There is one patch my dad had in his possession that I cannot find it anywhere. Hoping you can identify it. Although I'm not sure but the patch may have been from another serviceman. My dad was in Air Force and this patch doesn't look like it is affiliated with that service branch. Anyway here is a photo of it. Hope you can track it down! Thanks! Gary
Voxman Posted May 16, 2024 Author #12 Posted May 16, 2024 Thank you kind sir for providing the answer! It's odd my dad woukd have this patch since he was in the Air Force. I thought maybe it was from my Uncle Jerry killed in action while part of the crew of a B-17 over France. Guess it will remain a mystery. Gary I've included the photo of my dad's military display I made last year. He had been in Coast Guard, Navy and finally Air Force.
