Received an Afghanistan grouping with an army DUC. The ribbon was black?

Any ideas?

He was military intelligence.

Yes, It's a totally black ribbon. I know you can buy these(ribbons) online, but I'm not sure what it means. Especially in DUC format.

Although not official, it could represent a unit that lost member(s) in combat as a symbol of remembrance, sort of like covering a police badge with a black ribbon.

Can you tell if it is US or foreign-made?
