Kms2174 Posted April 25, 2024 #1 Posted April 25, 2024 Hello! so we came a crossed this in an antique store. we’ve seen one this size before but not with the fins also there is a loaded parachute in the fins too. Trying to establish worth. Thanks!
SubgunFun Posted April 30, 2024 #2 Posted April 30, 2024 It's always difficult to determine value on large items as they are difficult to ship and display. It's a very cool item though. I never expected a leaflet bomb to have retarded fins (the parachute). I believe the parachute will be under a bit of spring pressure, so I wouldn't mess with the back of it. Usually, retarded bombs are used so they can be dropped low to the ground. The retardation will slow them down (high drag) to allow the aircraft to get some distance before they detonate. Not sure why it would be on a leaflet bomb unless it has something to do with the way the bomb disperses it's contents. The fins alone may have a bit of value as they are probably quite unique. I love it, but my wife would kill me if I brought that home.
Mr.Jerry Posted April 30, 2024 #3 Posted April 30, 2024 without knowing the exact value of that type of bomb, in my shop we would classify that as a "big Bomb" and put $750-1000 on it. They are impressive but tend to sit for a while until the right guy (with the right wife) comes along and can't live without it. (we usually chain them to something to prevent them from falling over)
Kms2174 Posted April 30, 2024 Author #4 Posted April 30, 2024 Oh they go for way more out here. Just the top without the fins sells for around 3,000 weve just never seen one with the fins before

opus5150 Posted April 30, 2024 #6 Posted April 30, 2024 Not too sure those are the right fins for this bomb. Should be fiberglass/reinforced plastic.
