Buffalo Grunt Posted April 22 Share #1 Posted April 22 Just doing some research for a friend of mine .. he's looking for an image of a WWII Beach Master patch .. He's not sure if it was BMU-1 or BMU-2 .. It's a simple patch with an Octopus holding several things? I know it's a longshot, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks, An old Army guy ... Tonomachi Posted April 22 Share #2 Posted April 22 I have been collecting USN Beach Master Unit insignia for quite some time and to my knowledge there was no insignia for either BMU-1 or BMU-2 during WW2. What your friend is talking about is their logo (see photo) which was used by BMU-2 from 1949 through the early 1950s until they changed the design completely which incorporated a chimpanzee holding a flag while tugging landing craft to the beach. The earlier logo was used when BMU-2 was part of Naval Beach Group Two. However I'm not 100% sure this logo was ever made into a patch as I would have found one by now. Bearmon Posted April 24 Share #4 Posted April 24 Some old and new BMU patches. The alligator is the most recent BMU2 patch. The monkey is the one Tonomachi is referring too
