rathbonemuseum.com Posted April 10, 2024 #1 Posted April 10, 2024 Not sure what to make of this odd duck. Picked this up at the last SOS for cheap. Interesting aspect is appears to be cast in lower grade silver from a typical US wing pattern but then hand chased to produce detail in the wings and the shoulders. Have not seen one quite like this before, have you?
bschwartz Posted April 10, 2024 #2 Posted April 10, 2024 Cliff has a similar wing on my site. In fact I would say other than the quality of the metal it's almost an exact match - https://www.ww2wings.com/wings/usaaf/pilot/presleyaafpilot7.shtml
rathbonemuseum.com Posted April 10, 2024 Author #3 Posted April 10, 2024 @CliffP any further speculation on where and when this pilot wing comes from? I almost passed it up as being so crude until I took a closer look.
pfrost Posted April 10, 2024 #4 Posted April 10, 2024 They kind of have a Mexico/Southwest US/Panama vibe to me. There were many theaters of operation, not only the CBI and ETO. I love them though. Cool beans and thanks for sharing.
bschwartz Posted April 11, 2024 #5 Posted April 11, 2024 I had a chance to connect with Cliff last night and he, unfortunately, didn't have any other information to share about the possible origin of the badge other than he agreed that it does not appear to be US made. I'm of the same opinion as Patrick that this has the feel of something done in Southwest America/Mexico or Latin America. Sort of along the lines of these Panama made wings.
