hhbooker2 Posted March 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2009 "HOME DEFENSE GUIDE" Section of 'The Philadelphia Inquirer' (23 March 1942) shows the citizens what to do in wartime emergencies and how they can contribute to the greater war effort, but they also show volunteers in various uniforms with special insignia that shows their assumed responsibilities. There is not near enough material on the CITIZEN'S DEFENSE CORPS that became CIVIL DEFENSE! Here is the special section's front cover showing a man serving as a FIRE WATCHER with a hand-u=pump container to extinguish incendiary devices. To his left, our right is a member of the Girl Scouts of America carrying the U.S. Colours and to her left is a member of the Boy Scouts of America and next to him a woman who is either in the Medical Corps of perhaps Nurses" Aides Corps?
