General Apathy Posted March 14, 2024 #1 Posted March 14, 2024 . I have received this information regarding vehicle movements for military vehicle owners and visitors June 6th 2024. Note that no vehicle movements will be allowed on the Route Nationale N13 during the day of June 6th. ( apologies as it states in the last line the map is a copy of a copy of 2014 regulations. ) regards lewis. ...
Glidertrooper Posted March 14, 2024 #2 Posted March 14, 2024 Hey Lewis, this is VERY useful information, so thank you for posting. Personally I have arranged travel for my family for the commemorations this year and we are staying just south of Bayeux, so road travel will be important. When we did the 70th Anniversary we got lucking just rocking up straight off the 6am ferry at Ouistreham and reaching our target of the Merville Battery before the police closures went in. Even had time for a coffee at the cafe on immediately opening at Pegasus Bridge - couldn’t get anywhere near it on the way back obviously! We are aiming to spend the day at Gold Breach / Arromanches on the 6th June, so any recommendations on the best way to do things would be gratefully received? Looking at that information, I am thinking we might drive up to Gold before 6am to beat the closures. Would that work? Any and all advice gratefully received, bearing in mind I will have a 7-year old in tow! Cheers……John
General Apathy Posted March 15, 2024 Author #3 Posted March 15, 2024 . Hi John, Hi John, hopefully what I have posted will be of some help to yourself and other visitors. To-date that's all the information thats been put out, nothing so far about the Utah beach area. It's said that Ste Mere Eglise and Carentan are not allowing vehicle access to the town centres, with all parking in surrounding fields and possibly foot only access. Thousands of Police and Gendarmes are being drafted in but they will have little knowledge of the towns, villages and coastal areas. If and when more information is given out then I will be adding it to the forum. All I can add is that myself and all other local vehicle friends will be avoiding the coastal areas and the main towns, there is a little local upset with events being officially described as ' Festivals ' and not commemorations. regards lewis. ...
General Apathy Posted March 15, 2024 Author #4 Posted March 15, 2024 . Twelve days of events at the Carentan Victory museum . . . . . . . https://normandy-victory-museum.fr/en/dday80/ D-DAY 80 80th anniversary of D-Day Program from June 1 to 12, 2024 The 80th anniversary of D-Day is a historic anniversary. The whole of Normandy is mobilised to pay international tribute to those who reopened the gates of freedom in Europe. As it does every year, the Normandy Victory Museum is taking part in this tribute with a varied programme. This major event, which has been approved by the Normandy Region, will be held from 1 to 12 June 2024 at the Normandy Victory Museum, both indoors and outdoors. regards lewis ...
General Apathy Posted March 16, 2024 Author #5 Posted March 16, 2024 . A few details of monuments etc around the Ste Mere Eglise sector . . . . regards lewis. ...
General Apathy Posted March 27, 2024 Author #6 Posted March 27, 2024 . June 6th 2024 . . . . . . . Well it sounds like 6th of June will be a monumental foul up for the average locals, visitors, tourists, there's a website that reads as clear as mud. Locals have been told to get a ' movement order sticker ' for vehicle windscreens, that's collectors military and ordinary civilian cars. I can't be precise with my statements as it's not precise about what can be done with or without stickers . . . . . . . a nightmare for the police and gendarmes on the ground with tourists from about a dozen countries ( and languages ) touring around. Hopefully all these rules and requirements only apply to the day of the 6th, encompassing the official commemorative sites, it is hopeful that days either side of the 6th all restrictions are lifted. https://www.calvados.gouv.fr/Actions-de-l-Etat/80e-anniversaire-du-Debarquement-et-de-la-liberation-de-la-Normandie/FAQ-ZCR-Stickage/ZCR-et-stickage-des-vehicules?fbclid=IwAR1vKGygXTfyvm9rRRNozUBAlRLxpqigxUPxbTk0B4MeePR15Uil1f2J9aI_aem_AcQj7T8Zx929JpU36E5iaviJQ4LIrwrSyb9b9FcEeOkMO0CpQpWymSKQIV4K6wdwaneAjoL6XruWZ5lNg4qC7odv Best of luck, if here on the 6th. ...
earlymb Posted March 27, 2024 #7 Posted March 27, 2024 Hope for the best, prepare for the worst... If you can bring a bicycle if you want to move around the coastal area on the 6th. When I was there in '14 we got that sticker but still the only thing we could do on the 6th was go south as the coastal area was simply closed off, so we did a long tour of the Bocage and ended up next to the Vimoutiers Tiger.
General Apathy Posted March 27, 2024 Author #8 Posted March 27, 2024 Just now, earlymb said: Hope for the best, prepare for the worst... Hi earlymb and everyone, it appears that the rumour mills have been working overtime, I have just come off the phone again, after the phone call I tried to delete all the post I made above, but the editing option had timed-out. These are the details, There is NO exclusion zone on the Utah beach side of Isigny sur Mer, the exclusion zone is only between Isigny and Ouistreham covering Omaha and adjoining beach areas where all the international dignitaries will be assembled. After the atrocities at the music venue in Russia last week where over a hundred people were shot by terrorists then France nationally is on high alert, it is suggested that re-ennactors and vehicle owners DO-NOT display weapons on vehicles or carried by individuals. The weapons carried by police and Gendarmes are live firers . . . . . . . !!!!! regards lewis. ..

Hi everforward. thanks for the comment, I have tried my best to make sense of the situation, thankfully for myself and friends we are outside the zone, and won't be entering it at all . . . . . over the years it has become more and more regulated as heads of states became involved. Sadly very few veterans will be seen this year. regards lewis.

This has nothing to do with the road closures on the 6th of June, and hopefully roads would be freely open on the 7th for anyone wishing to attend this Jeep get-together. regards lewis. ...
