I have a "Surgical Instrument Kit, Minor Surgery" like this one (but in much better condition), which was sold last month on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=250368664194

They are marked, as follows:

Outside - Front

Surgical Instrument Kit, Minor Surgery

9-577-650

Outside - Back

U (caduceous medical symbol) S

Inside

United Surgical Supplies Co.

New York, N.Y. U.S.A.

The seller listed it as a Viet Nam item, but he didn't really know. Does anybody here know if it is a Viet Nam War item, Korean War, or WWII? Also, would it have been used by all branches, or is it specific to one branch?

Thanks, in advance!

That kit shown on ebay is Vietnam era or newer.

During WW2 Army kits were different than USN / USMC kits but I think by VN all branches were using the same parts.

I have a kit like the ebay one, with the 12 digit stock number. It is a VN issue kit, used by my big bro, a Navy Corpsman, in VN. He gave it to me when I went to Field Medical Service School in 1979.
