This looks to me like a pre WW1 cavalry colonel insignia but is much smaller than a shoulder board, about the size of a collar insignia.  It has both a pin and a bar on the back. It was made by Robbins Co of Attleboro Mass.  Could someone please tell me what this is and where on the uniform it would have been worn. Thank you in advance.

Isn’t that a GAR Post Commander insignia ?

Indeed it is, the backing ribbon slides through the bar mount.  I've never seen a yellow enameled version of the Post Commander.

Thanks for identifying.  I found it in a box of collar insignia and went down the wrong path.
