Previously I inquired (last week ) about this airborne paratrooper knife I received. My relative served late WWII and received a hardship honorable discharge during the Korean War. A few things I’ve noticed - it’s manufactured by Schrade Walden NY, it doesn’t state “Presto” either, it doesn’t have a green or tan/khaki cord but has the bale. It measures approximately 7 3/4 “ long with the blade being approximately 3” long, sliding lock tab works, when “unlocked” button to release the blade works and to close it too. The handles feels like plastic, definitely not bone/stag like the earlier ones. Reading through from the beginning of this thread I thought I saw one or two posts/comments to this style - made by Schrade Walden NY instead of instead of another state? What would the time period be for this knife - late Korean War period, even from Vietnam War period? Any information would be appreciated.
doyler Posted February 9, 2024 #2 Posted February 9, 2024 Here is an older topic Allan H did on the M2 knife variations. https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/259640-wwii-airborne-switchblades/#comment-2083194
Allan H. Posted February 9, 2024 #3 Posted February 9, 2024 I believe that the Schrade Knife Company moved to Walden, NY in 1947 after the company was sold off by the Schrade family. I believe your knife to date to the post WWII to Korean War era. Allan
US Army 86 Posted February 9, 2024 Author #4 Posted February 9, 2024 Thanks Doyler for the link, it’s an informative photo with comparisons of the different styles . I read that in the older thread. but since my blade doesn’t have “Presto” plus Allan H thinks it’s probably post WWII or Korean era. Allan H, very informative photo (that Doyle’s mentioned) you added in the older thread. Since it’s not marked “Presto” it’s probably post WWII/Korean era. I realize it might not command as much as the earlier styles M2 & earlier M3 (I’ve seen some earlier styles sell for $400 and up based on condition) but for its condition with minimal wear what would you think its value is? What is the actual title of Cole’s book us military knife bible, was there a vol 1, vol 2, vol 3? Unfortunately my local library doesn’t have a copy any knife bible by MH Cole. Thanks again for your answers.
