I saw this at auction and was intrigued by it but didn't bid. As an MNo medal is should have the second type ribbon, but this sure looks original to the medal. Numbering looks good, too. I was wondering what your opinions of it might be?

I think it’s an original MMo planchet re-ribboned with an original 1st ribbon/brooch assembly.   I like the way the ribbon is really short (the way they originally issued them).

I think somewhere along the line, a ribbon-less planchet was paired up with an original planchet-less ribbon/brooch assembly.

This was my original though because the brooch and ribbon look too nicely done to be a fake and the pendant is, of course, original.

What did it sell for at Heritage?

$875

Wow, $875 seems high for an MNo. numbered example even with a first pattern drape. I tried to sell a 3-digit MNo. with a second pattern drape for $350 not too long ago and got no takers.

Agree.  Either an uninformed buyer  (with just enough knowledge to think they are getting a bargain) or someone with a ribbon-less No. planchet who really wanted that original ribbon assembly for a restoration.

I have to say, if I had a nice ribbon-less Civil War No. planchet, I would pay many hundreds for a nice original ribbon assembly like that, as it would greatly increase the value of the No. planchet.

But I must say $875 is above what I would pay even if able to decently re-ribbon the MNo planchet  with a blue/gray ribbon and partially recoup my investment by selling it for $200 to $300.

Heritage is know for getting crazy money for things.  But probably a sky-high seller commission and you have to wait forever to get your $$$.
