444 Magnum Posted January 9, 2024 #1 Posted January 9, 2024 Hey everybody. Just joined and this is my first post. I have this McKeever cartridge box and I'm trying to identify the type. I read through a thread under the Indian Wars section that had identifying information for the .45-70 and .50-70 boxes. I didn't see my box so I'm wondering if it's a later box that was designed for the .30-40 Krag. It is stamped Rock Island, not Rock Island Arsenal. Inspectors mark looks like J.H. Any help is appreciated.
444 Magnum Posted January 9, 2024 Author #2 Posted January 9, 2024 I tried to edit my post but wasn't able to. Inspector's mark appears to be J.H. Thanks for any help.
Woodymyster Posted January 16, 2024 #3 Posted January 16, 2024 You have the last 45-70 type which was produced starting in July 1884. This is a type 6 with the Acorn Stud, no brass escutcheon, and the canvas webbing replaced with canvas duck.
