maxx Posted March 20, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2009 The "blue santa" knocked on my door and wished me a happy friday about an hour ago. Here is what was in the box he handed over: A hilt marked, unmolested Utica M4, and an M1 Carbine cleaning kit in similar, unused condition. maxx Posted March 21, 2009 Author Share #2 Posted March 21, 2009 Upon closer examination, the cleaning rod pouch was made in 1944 by"F al S" and "Fungus Proofed" by J. C. BIRCK CLNG co. in 1945. Would that mean it may have been slated to go to the Pacific? I will post a couple of pictures of the bayonet in the blade forum. Cleaning rod has a brass wiper, which indicates early production? LtRGFRANK Posted March 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 22, 2009 I have one by the same maker but not fungus proofed so you might be right it was headed to the PTO. Robert
maxx Posted March 22, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted March 22, 2009 I recant the "unmolested" comment I made about the M4 bayonet above. After closer examination, the leather grip has had about 1/4" thickness power sanded off, and I am not convinced it has not been reparked. Oh well. Win some, lose some, and some get rained out in this hobby eh?
