robinb Posted November 20, 2023 #1 Posted November 20, 2023 Estate sale find. Working on getting the name.
Jhos71 Posted November 20, 2023 #3 Posted November 20, 2023 Great find! Keep us updated on what information you find about the vet.
Big Iron Posted November 20, 2023 #5 Posted November 20, 2023 Interesting "Occupation" ribbon. I asked a while back why some WWII vets received this ribbon instead of the standard White, Red, Black, White ribbon. The general consensus is that the WWI Occupation of Germany medal was formalized right before the outbreak of WWII and that the quartermasters (when ordering WWII Occupation medals) requested an Occupation medal, they saw "Occupation of Germany" and ordered those, while the Pacific Theater did not have the same opportunity for confusion. I wonder if he joined the 29th post-Normandy invasion or just never got the arrowhead?
robinb Posted November 20, 2023 Author #6 Posted November 20, 2023 The collar discs have been slightly domed. There is scarring of the disc from apparent light hammer blows.

robinb Posted November 21, 2023 Author #12 Posted November 21, 2023 The discs are just regular screw backs.
everforward Posted November 21, 2023 #13 Posted November 21, 2023 Did a search on the name and ASN you posted…unfortunately I didn’t get a hit on either in the 29th ID morning reports from 6 June ‘44 to the end of the war. Not an absolute but simply no record of reassignment or promotion, wounds, transfers etc….
29navy Posted November 21, 2023 #14 Posted November 21, 2023 IAW the Archive enlistment database, that ASN - 37606030 - belongs to a Louis L Furman
robinb Posted November 21, 2023 Author #15 Posted November 21, 2023 I'm not having any success looking him up either.

Also noticed he was discharged for disability. He would not have taken part in 4 campaigns.
postmanusnac Posted November 21, 2023 #21 Posted November 21, 2023 I believe this photo is of the same guy on the tag. Notice the description says he was born in China. https://www.ebay.com/itm/354957518393?
postmanusnac Posted November 21, 2023 #23 Posted November 21, 2023 Here are two photos of him in China in 1928.
AustinO Posted November 21, 2023 #25 Posted November 21, 2023 No combat unit patch? It's possible he transferred to the 29th because of points and did not make it on any of their muster rolls.
