Interesting "Occupation" ribbon. I asked a while back why some WWII vets received this ribbon instead of the standard White, Red, Black, White ribbon. The general consensus is that the WWI Occupation of Germany medal was formalized right before the outbreak of WWII and that the quartermasters (when ordering WWII Occupation medals) requested an Occupation medal, they saw "Occupation of Germany" and ordered those, while the Pacific Theater did not have the same opportunity for confusion.

I wonder if he joined the 29th post-Normandy invasion or just never got the arrowhead?

The collar discs have been slightly domed. There is scarring of the disc from apparent light hammer blows.

What do the back look like?  I have a set made from British half pennies and have seen others which were domed intentionally.

Not to derail/detract from this thread, but could you post those sometime please?

Did a search on the name and ASN you posted…unfortunately I didn’t get a hit on either in the 29th ID morning reports from 6 June ‘44 to the end of the war. Not an absolute but simply no record of reassignment or promotion, wounds, transfers etc….

This is interesting, this guy was wounded July 1944 and probably discharged in June 1945, not 44.  Also noticed he was discharged for disability.

He would not have taken part in 4 campaigns.
