644td Posted November 19, 2023 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2023 A wonderful McCord front seam swivel loop Korean War repaint Chaplain helmet and Capac liner. Both the helmet and liner have painted crosses and both have the word Chaplain painted on the inside. The liner has the name John Kadash painted over along with other writing US……..? But can’t make it out. The helmet was found in an antique store in Arkansas and I am still tracking down any history from the dealer.
Nickman983 Posted November 20, 2023 Share #2 Posted November 20, 2023 Great helmet! It looks like there was a John Kadash from PA who was a Korean War army vet, might be your guy for the painted over name. Either way a very nice addition to your Chaplain collection! Thank you, I saw the same John Kadash. I’m not sure if he had the helmet and the Chaplain inherited it, because the word Chaplain is in white paint and was used to mark out the John Kadash that was in yellow. I sent Bob Nay a request to see there was a Chaplain by that name. I’ve also have a message in to the dealer at the antique store to find out where he got it. If I can track down Kadash that may help ID Chaplain Smith. marty
Nickman983 Posted November 21, 2023 Share #4 Posted November 21, 2023 I would wager a guess that he had it before the Chaplain inherited it but it's tough to say for sure. Hopefully one of your requests will turn up some more info. Maybe it's just me, but are "Chaplain" and "Smith" done in different paints on the liner? Makes me wonder if it might have been passed from one Chaplain to another.
644td Posted November 21, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted November 21, 2023 I do believe there were 2 chaplains. The helmet was passed to the first chaplain from John Kadash and the chaplain wrote chaplain on the inside of the helmet and liner, I believe the writing style is the same. Then the second Chaplain wrote Smith and painted the liner cross silver. pure speculation on my part.
