General Wilhelm is still living and had a hell of a Marine Corps career! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_E._Wilhelm https://valor.militarytimes.com/hero/41465
danimal03 Posted November 19, 2023 Share #2 Posted November 19, 2023 Nice piece. My first weapon I bought was a newly imported 1953 dated Soviet SKS in mint condition. This was 1996 and it was $200. Still have it. Actually, it is a pretty rifle. Thank you for sharing your nice piece. A fine relic from a fine warrior.
Marshallj Posted November 19, 2023 Share #3 Posted November 19, 2023 Nice SKS. I don't understand the Vietnam connection. I do see that the bill of sale calls the SKS a war trophy.
WWIIBuff1945 Posted November 19, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted November 19, 2023 The colonel served 2 tours in Nam and brought home the rifle in 1970. If you read the links I provided, he was and advisor and earned a silver star. I assume when he was an advisor is when the rifle was captured. I'm in the process of trying to get the story and will advise if I do. Thanks.
Marshallj Posted November 25, 2023 Share #5 Posted November 25, 2023 I read the links and certainly saw his Vietnam service. I just think the wording of the “bill of sale” is odd. It doesn’t really tell us who captured the weapon nor are there capture papers. Hopefully you can tell us more.
Nack Posted November 26, 2023 Share #6 Posted November 26, 2023 Not sure there were any other wars we were involved in in march of 1970, so it seems pretty obvious it’s a VN war trophy.
hyrax222 Posted January 15 Share #7 Posted January 15 Norinco was founded in 1980, according to Wikipedia. hyrax222
WWIIBuff1945 Posted January 16 Author Share #8 Posted January 16 I don't know where I got Norinco from? I think it was listed that way in the auction. Based on the serial number it was produced in 1967.
