bloke21 Posted November 13 Share #1 Posted November 13 Are there any known examples of true military contract solid OD Green BDUs?
USMC_COLLECTOR Posted November 13 Share #2 Posted November 13 Yes. Right after Vietnam they created the uniform from an RDF ERDL pattern in OD green. You see them in use with rangers alongside jungle fatigues in the 80's.
bloke21 Posted November 13 Author Share #3 Posted November 13 Very interesting, I am guessing these OD Green BDUs were ripstop?

Martinjmpr Posted November 21 Share #6 Posted November 21 At the risk of sounding pedantic, although these were issued during the "BDU Era" they used a different cut. AFAIK they used the same cut as the RDF ERDL camo uniforms that came out in the 1970's. Biggest difference from the BDU would probably be these OD green jackets having a center pleat in the jacket pockets. BDU's never had a center pleated pocket. The jackets were also cut longer than most BDU jackets of a similary size. If you compare them side-by-side the extra length is easy to see. Also most BDU uniforms featured reinforced elbows, knees and seat panels. These OD green uniforms did not. There is some discussion of these OD green RDF-style uniforms in this thread: Tropical Coats Worn Outside Southeast Asia. - UNIFORMS - U.S. Militaria Forum (usmilitariaforum.com)
spec6-spencer Posted November 28 Share #7 Posted November 28 I bought mine about 15 years ago at a small flea market at the former Tempelhof Airport. Unfortunately the label is no longer readable :( Lars

atb Posted November 28 Share #10 Posted November 28 Based on the double patch evidence on the left arm, are they a US item?
spec6-spencer Posted November 28 Share #11 Posted November 28 I think from the way it was made, the seller only knew at the time that he got it from an American soldier... The upper ghost patch also has a straight edge at the top and not a curved one like the Berlin brigade patch? Unfortunately, I never found out what patches might have been there.
