patches Posted October 30, 2023 #1 Posted October 30, 2023 What is this Collar Badge? One 2nd Lieutenant Roberto Lim, stateside March 1942,1st Filipino Infantry Battalion Camp San Luis Obispo California ,from what little I could find on him he apparently leaves the Ground Forces and transfers to the Air Corps and becomes bomber Pilot sometime in 1942, and gets overseas late in the war as a B-29 Pilot in The Pacific.
patches Posted October 30, 2023 Author #2 Posted October 30, 2023 Lim by the way is one of the Sons of Vicente Lim West Point Class of 1914, thee very first Filipino to enter the Point, his other son Vicente Lim Jr. also went to the Academy, Class of 1944. Remark Posted October 30, 2023 #3 Posted October 30, 2023 It appears to be the standard US Coat of Arms, but with the top center circle broken off.

If it is I wonder what it was from, its small right, and curiously that's the side his Rank Insignia is to have been worn, the BOS goes on the other side, in his Case Infantry Crossed Rifles or should be Infantry Crossed Rifles.
Remark Posted October 31, 2023 #5 Posted October 31, 2023 I really don't know what it is from, but if I were to make one I would use a 1920s-1930s era officer's unassigned troops cut out insignia. You would have to get rid of the outer rim and the top circle. It all seems like a lot of trouble, but I don't know where else to get something that size.

patches Posted November 1, 2023 Author #7 Posted November 1, 2023 Whohoa. Found it, this is a Philippine Commonwealth Army Officers Insignia, a Insignia worn like our Officers U.S. Collar Badge as we see, as this photo in my OP is in 1942, it would make sense this badge is worm where it is, as at that date, the Officers wore the U.S. Collar Badge on the Right Collar and BOS on the Left, with Ranks on the Shoulder Loops, this was changed in due course right, here the Rank is worn on the Right and BOS on the Left Shoulder Lops unadorned Here's a Officer in 194 in The PI, one Celestino Almeda Curios as to why Lim wears it as he is a Commission Officer in the U.S. Army, perhaps all Filipino Officers in the 1st Filipino Infantry Battalion (Later Regiment) wore this instead of the U.S. Collar Badge??
patches Posted November 1, 2023 Author #9 Posted November 1, 2023 It is a metal version of this Emblem without the Stars, now to find an original example as seen being worn.

Remark Posted November 5, 2023 #13 Posted November 5, 2023 I found this on the web. It has a few versions without the stars on them. The picture owner watermarked the picture if you want to look it up.
