Uniforms of the Day Posted October 27, 2023 #1 Posted October 27, 2023 I just acquired a group from a Marine's estate. I am just trying to date the 9th Marines patch. Ot looks Japanese made. Any help is appreciated.
manayunkman Posted October 27, 2023 #2 Posted October 27, 2023 Sweet! Looks late 50s-60s. 9th Marines “Hell in a helmet “.
Mr. Bushido Posted October 28, 2023 #3 Posted October 28, 2023 A lot of very interesting items! As you may already know, the meanings of the Japanese words are as follows. The name tape says the pronunciation of the name in Katakana-characters. I can't express it well, but it's written like "zei-dii-rouzu." The Japanese flag says words to commemorate the summit of Mt. Fuji.
Uniforms of the Day Posted October 29, 2023 Author #4 Posted October 29, 2023 No, I had no idea what the translation might be. Thank you so much for the help. So, maybe all three of the small flags recognize his climbing to the summit?
Mr. Bushido Posted October 29, 2023 #5 Posted October 29, 2023 Yes, you guessed it right. 3,776 meters is equivalent to 12,395 feet and also indicates the total height of Mt. Fuji.
patches Posted October 29, 2023 #6 Posted October 29, 2023 Interesting grouping, yes late 50s into the 60s, however the Fur Cap we have to assume was made Post WWII in the 40s, yes prior to 1949, simply because China was now Red after 1949, having won the Civil War, highly unlikely any companies in People's Republic were making caps for purchase by U.S. Forces in the Far East in the 1950s. That this cap and those like it were still floating about for purchase years after, and was acquired by this man then.
