domatan Posted October 27, 2023 #1 Posted October 27, 2023 Hi again american friends, This helmet will be sold in an french auction. If possible, I'd like to have your opinions. I put some pics below. To be honest, I'm not sure of this one. It's just a feeling. Thanks' for your help. Dominique
manayunkman Posted October 27, 2023 #2 Posted October 27, 2023 The pictures get too fuzzy when you blow them up for details but it sure looks nice. Any close ups?
AustinO Posted October 27, 2023 #3 Posted October 27, 2023 Hi Dominique, hope you are well. Is there a photo of the inside? Any close-up photos of the painting? The colors are consistent with what was available to US troops in France, but that does not necessarily mean it is original. Most if not all of the 77th helmets I have seen have the shell scraped smooth before the application of the 77th insignia, this one does not - but it is also not just a normal 77th parade helmet.
rd12 Posted October 28, 2023 #5 Posted October 28, 2023 What is after the 77? Looks like a "U" I second AustinO, I like the paint scheme and colors. It does sort of look like it was painted in France as opposed to on journey home or stateside. From the chipping it looks like the 77th insignia was painted over the camo, that is maybe done at a later time. Lots of speculations, but overall looks like a nice helmet.
domatan Posted October 28, 2023 Author #6 Posted October 28, 2023 Thank's to all... I add two more closer pics. Dominique
AustinO Posted October 28, 2023 #7 Posted October 28, 2023 I would be wary of the liner and chinstrap possibly having been added. I like the paint.
