Uniforms of the Day Posted October 19, 2023 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2023 I just aquired these. I thought I would post them because I had never seen either type before and thought they may be of intetest. The first is a 6" jacket patch for the Cusk, SS348. Cusk was launched in 1945. She was the first ship to launch a guided missile. She was part of the Regulus Missile project later. But this patch dates to the earlier guided missile test period - 1948-ish. The embroidery is lovely. The other patch is for the USS Barbero, SSG317. Barbero was another WWII era sub launched in 1943 (SS317). In 1955, she was converted to a Regulus Missile launching platform. She was redesignated as a guided-missile submarine and became SSG-317. This patch dates to the 1955 period. The white text on the white background is hard to see in the pictures. Above and left of the missile is "USS BARBERO". Below and to the right of the missile is "SSG317". I am interested in any feedback as to where this Barbero patch was produced. Note the orange inked "2" in a square on the reverse.
Salvage Sailor Posted October 22, 2023 Share #2 Posted October 22, 2023 Nice patches, the BARBERO looks to be Japanese made, 1960ish. These are more REGULUS guided missile submarine patches from my collection.
