Help make sense of these medals? Spanish American War Medals Two Star General

Hey all I have this lot of medals that I acquired at an estate sale. I can't seem to make sense of them! The first is a two star general medal marked 10k Gold, which I have seen online and they seem to be very rare. I can't however find any info on Commander John Resch and was hoping you all could help out! The second medal appears to be a California volunteer medal for the war as well attributed to John Resch. The third medal is very small and I can only assume it is to John Resch as well. The last one appears to be to Jack Resch but with much later dates? What would this be for?

The inscription of the first medal on the middle part reads, "Presented to John Resch, Past Department Commander of Wash. and Alaska, U.S.W.V. 1906-07"

Hello,

I believe your man, John Resch, was a Corporal in the 1st California Cavalry.  That explains his California State Spanish American War Service Medal.   Your other medals are his various United Spanish War Veterans (USVW) membership and service medals.  Resch was not a two star general.  That bar with two stars on it, on the first medal probably represents his post as Past Department Commander.  The 1st California Cavalry served in the Philippines during the war.  You might have a Federal Philippine Campaign Medal or maybe a Spanish Campaign Medal.  Those might also be attributable to him.  Please let us know if you have something like that.  Good luck.
