1916 punishment expedition medal ???

Hello,picked this up in a dusty drawer in a shop in Colorado...A website says this is a "commercial" type....what exactly does this mean exactly....It is a beautiful piece...was wondering if this is in any way a rare piece etc...   Thanks,Scott

"Punishment"??? - Maybe Punitive - This was a commercially produced medal for towns/cities to purchase for awarding to their citizens that served. This was done to avoid the hassle of artwork, dies, etc - It is a fairly common medal that sells for $20-25.
