Siamundo Posted October 1, 2023 #1 Posted October 1, 2023 I recently picked up these odd chevrons. I tried to find examples of these that might be posted elsewhere, but wasn't able to. They are embroidered on what appears, to me anyway, to be the same type of 'pink' color material as officer's pink trousers. The material appears to be a wool/felt type material. I have posted a khaki chevron next to in one of the photos for color comparison. Just curious if anyone else has run across these before or knows anything about them.
militbuff Posted October 1, 2023 #2 Posted October 1, 2023 I’m pretty sure those are WWII WAC Chevrons. Many years back, I purchased a uniform directly from a WWII Enlisted WAC. She had a large number of these pink/taupe color chevrons.
Siamundo Posted October 1, 2023 Author #3 Posted October 1, 2023 Thanks militbuff. I hadn't considered WAC as being a possibility. So during WW II enlisted men and women wore the same size chevrons?

So during WW II enlisted men and women wore the same size chevrons? They did wear the same-size chevrons. Most of the time, they wore the exact same chevrons as men wore in terms of color. But she had a few pairs of chevrons just like your pink colored ones and I remember asking her about them because they were so unusual. Some had been worn while others were unworn. I seem to recall that she said they were for summer uniforms. However, she only had an OD shirt and OD uniform (and some other items) remaining and I purchased those from her. I wish I still had the chevrons but I sold them many years ago.
militbuff Posted October 2, 2023 #5 Posted October 2, 2023 Attached are some photos from an interesting blog I just found about a woman’s great aunt who served in the WAC’s in WWII. In the blog, she has some photos of her great-aunt’s chevrons. The one in the second photo is the same color as yours but it appears that she accidentally photographed it backwards. In the first photo, there’s also another patch on the upper right side that I think is a WAC only chevron. I got a few like that from my WAC as well. I suspect that these color chevrons are fairly uncommon as I haven’t come across any since. Perhaps they were made in smaller quantities and the Army just figured the WAC’s could wear the same color chevrons as men.
patches Posted October 2, 2023 #6 Posted October 2, 2023 Yes WACS, I too got stummped a bit back and posted them for the ID LOL.
Siamundo Posted October 4, 2023 Author #7 Posted October 4, 2023 Thank you for sharing the earlier post, patches. That tells me exactly what I was looking for. I was using the color 'pink' in my searches and wasn't getting any hits. Guess I should have searched using the color 'taupe' instead 😁
