elvis3006 Posted September 26, 2023 #1 Posted September 26, 2023 Hi all I have not posted on here for some time. Want to share my 1/72 scale RC model Fletcher Destroyer made by Bancroft. It arrived already built and ready to run. The make and quality of this product is very good already, but I added some detail to it and re painted and weathered it. Hope you enjoy the pictures. I will post pictures of it running in the pond later. Best regards. Rob
manayunkman Posted September 26, 2023 #3 Posted September 26, 2023 With the right background it would be difficult to determine if this was real or not.
Striker62 Posted September 26, 2023 #5 Posted September 26, 2023 That looks awesome and very authentic. It could be in a movie and one would not know
sundance Posted September 26, 2023 #6 Posted September 26, 2023 Boy, that is nice. About how many hours went into your redo?
Proud Kraut Posted September 26, 2023 #7 Posted September 26, 2023 Awesome painting and weathering! How did you do the rust stains, did you use oil colors or pigments? Great model.
Tony V Posted September 26, 2023 #8 Posted September 26, 2023 Rob Very nice indeed ! She is beautiful Tony

How did you do the rust stains, did you use oil colors or pigments? Great model. Thank you, I used oil colors. Airbrushed the base colors followed by a lightening of the base colors in between panels, again always using an airbrush. Then I added spot or pin washes along the panel lines and other areas using a dark umber. Afterwards I returned to those locations adding spot washes of rust here and there. Once this was done I sprayed a coat of clear gloss enamel over the entire model to seal the paint. Once dry I then went all along the ship creating salt water and rain waters stains and streaks using enamel wash/paint. Thinning out the streak with enamel thinner using downward strokes with a brush. I then did the same for rust, using different colors of rust. Once all this was done and dry, I sprayed a couple of coats of clear flat enamel to seal and protect the work. Hopefully the paint job will hold up against exposure to water.
ArtyScout Posted September 27, 2023 #12 Posted September 27, 2023 Wow. Very nice elvis. You did an awesome job creating the wear of ocean water rust. You can tell that, that Destroyer hasn't been to port for awhile for some needed paint and maintenance. But its wartime and the Navy needed its ships. Again very, very nice. Semper Fi. Manny

Manny Thank you Manny and thank you for all the compliments everyone. I have been attempting to like your responses but the forum wont let me. Apparently I am only allowed to give out so many likes. The ship does look rough, and I will be the first to say I probably overdid it with the weathering.

Brian Dentino Posted September 27, 2023 #15 Posted September 27, 2023 Now this is COOL! Any shots of her afloat and under action?
tsaguy007 Posted September 28, 2023 #16 Posted September 28, 2023 To say this came out great would be a real understatement.

Fiziwater Posted December 16, 2024 #22 Posted December 16, 2024 Even though this post is over a year old, I just HAD to express my awe at how convincing the effects are in this build. I have to remind myself this is a model! As expressed in another post, “stunning”!
