TeamScience Posted September 26, 2023 #1 Posted September 26, 2023 Hello! I am quite new to patch collecting, and have acquired a few patches that have raised some suspicion on my part. Both of these patches have unusual glow under 365nm UV light. The white threads of the obverse of the 2nd Marine Division patch glow quite brilliantly under UV illumination (though, in the picture it seems more subdued than in real life). The I-MAC HQ patch threads themselves do not glow; however, the khaki fabric base glows brightly. There is also virtually no snow on the reverse. Because of my novice level of experience, I am hoping to get the opinions and insight of more advanced collectors regarding whether or not these patches are original to the WWII years. Your input is appreciated! Thanks in advance! Here is a link with what may be larger versions of these images: https://imgur.com/a/oj0dl1M
CUBUSMC Posted October 13, 2023 #3 Posted October 13, 2023 I think the 2nd Division Snake looks fine to me. Yes it may glow, but it may have been washed, etc. hard to really tell on the IMac HQ without a real good picture of the reverse. Semper Fi - Jeff

The I-MAC HQ patch observe and reverse are actually both pictured, but the near 100% lack of snow on the reverse makes it look like the obverse. 😵💫
CUBUSMC Posted October 16, 2023 #5 Posted October 16, 2023 Ah, yes I see it now. From what I can see, It does appear to be polyester thread on the IMAC, making it a repro. - Jeff
