Bought my first U.S. Rifle, Model of 1896 Krag with matching bayonet.

I’d always been fascinated by the Krag and it’s pre WWI service. This one fell into my lap last month but funds were tight and thankfully it was still in the old man’s garage when I went to make an offer. We agreed on $700 and it came home with me. Serial number puts it to mid-to-late 1898 Exceptional condition, exception being a split sling, which I was surprised was still on there and good condition leather for well over 100 years old. The bayonet date matches the rifle, let me know what you think! Want more pictures just let me know, thanks, Zach.

Very nice! Sounds like a good deal. One of these is missing from my collection.

Little closer look at the receiver and I noticed that that says Model 1896 if that changes much.

That’s a great price. I’ve been wanting one for years but they are nearly all $2k these days
