Salvage Sailor Posted September 17 Share #1 Posted September 17 Aloha Everyone, Ed Roth was a prolific hot rod maker & artist in the 1960's California car culture circles. He also was a USAF veteran and he freely provided many of this artwork designs geared towards US Forces serving in Vietnam, usually with a Rat Fink, Monster or Hot Rod subject. So troll through your collections and post them if you've got them USS RAT HOLE, Ed Roth on poster board frum my collection USS RAT HOLE heat transfer decal in my collection, full size for a large T-shirt

aerialbridge Posted September 26 Share #16 Posted September 26 Like millions of other boys, I had fun building Revell models of Roth's fantasmagorical automotive creations in the 60s when Rat Fink and Moon Eyes stickers were everywhere. At the time I never figured my house decades later would be on the opposite coast and slightly more than 13 clicks from Big Daddy's last So. Cal. house before he moved to Utah and lived his remaining years. Here's his house back in 2012, and a pic of him in his yard, circa 1987, about a year before he moved to Utah. His old digs just sold in 2021 for $824.7k. Big Daddy would probably say, "What a gasser!" I wonder if the painted trash can on the street was from Big Daddy just emptying his gun after some striping.
Bluehawk Posted September 26 Share #17 Posted September 26 > I was one of those millions of boys doing some model building... seeing Big Daddy's work in various car magazines inspired me to modify (with sandpaper and paint and spare parts/decals from other kits) Revell cars of the era (ca. 1960-63) and see if I could come up with any customized creations to rival his. I failed 🙂 But, it was fun trying...
