Argonauts2 Posted September 6, 2023 #1 Posted September 6, 2023 I recently acquired a nice pre-WWII Kelly helmet with a rough sand finish, leather liner and canvas chinstrap. The helmet rim is stamped, "14A". QUESTION: When were helmets stamped "14A" made? Who was the maker, McCord? I appreciate any information or reference material I should search as I have hit a wall in trying to run down the "14A". Thank you.
twthmoses Posted September 8, 2023 #2 Posted September 8, 2023 You mean stamped in the shell, the brim? If so, it’s a McCord stamp. McCord made 24 lots from feb41 to aug41 of M1917A1 shells. Photos are always nice.
Argonauts2 Posted September 11, 2023 Author #3 Posted September 11, 2023 Thank you. The helmet inside rim is marked "14A". Based on this stamp, what month in 1941 would this helmet have been made? Thank you. Joe

Joe McCord produced 24 lots from 4.feb 1941 to somewhere in Aug 1941 (first production line M1 shell delivered 30.aug 1941). Giving roughly 3,5 lots per month, so lot 14 would have been produced around May 1941.
Argonauts2 Posted September 12, 2023 Author #5 Posted September 12, 2023 Thank you for your help. I greatly appreciate your assistance. Is there a reference that you would recommend? All the best, Joe
