Panzerfaust Posted August 31, 2023 #1 Posted August 31, 2023 I picked up this WWI summer uniform and need help IDing the patch on the right sleeve. Many thanks. Drew
Mr. Bushido Posted August 31, 2023 #2 Posted August 31, 2023 The circular patch in the center indicates Pvt 1st class belonging to motor transport corps. And in general, I think chauffeur 1st class is the only patch that has a single line under the branch symbol. But I never saw that rank in motor transport corps. Maybe my memory is fuzzy.

Salvage Sailor Posted August 31, 2023 #4 Posted August 31, 2023 I believe that is a Motor Transport Chauffeur (first class) Another one was posted recently on the forum -->> Anyone seen a WWI rank patch like this?
Justin B. Posted September 5, 2023 #5 Posted September 5, 2023 Agreed with Salvage Sailor. Chauffeurs were authorized in all branches, and I think this Motor Transport Corps driver substituted his branch device in place of the official 12-spoke wheel. There were almost endless non-regulation enlisted ranks used in the WW1 period.
