US Army 86 Posted August 14, 2023 #1 Posted August 14, 2023 I recently came across two Lan Cay M9 bayonets & sheaths, one is black handle & sheath the other is coyote handle & sheath. The sheath for the black one had a built in sharpening stone on the back yet the coyote sheath didn’t have a sharpening stone. Aside from that the seller is asking $225 for the black handle & sheath & $275 for the coyote handle & sheath. They both look to be unissued with a light coat of oil on the blades, slight runner marks on the blades from being stored & removed from the sheaths, sharpening stone looks unused, no boxes. The woman wouldn’t let me take any pictures of the back of the sheaths even. She mentioned if I’m interested in both she’ll work with me on a price. Did all USGI M9 sheaths come with the built in sharpening stone especially if for the soldiers? I saw another post about a members M9 collection different brands & slightly different sheaths. How can one identify if the M9 is government issued or a “civilian” model? Is one finish (black, OD, coyote) scarce than the other M9’s? I’m still looking for a decent priced bayonet guide by Cummingham. Can anyone tell me what the differences might be in a 2nd edition versus a 4th edition bayonet guide by Cummingham?

Random Posted September 25, 2023 #3 Posted September 25, 2023 Here’s my 3 examples of US Army issued, from oldest style sheath to the newer style.
Random Posted September 25, 2023 #4 Posted September 25, 2023 Left is right is early to late M9s: from late 1980s Phrobis III, to the middle one marked “LANCAY” from the 1992-93 era, to the late 1990s “LAN-CAY” (with hyphen) with subtle changes along the way. The marking on the scabbards also changed between 1992-93 and the late 1990s. Hope that info helps
