semperbee Posted August 5, 2023 #1 Posted August 5, 2023 Picked this a couple of weeks ago, a M1909 holster. I'm thinking this for the Colt New Service revolver with the 7 1/2" barrel or am I wrong on that. Mfg'd at Rock Island with 1909 date and TCC inspector's mark. Still has the brass lanyard loop on the bottom and some unit marking stamped on the flap.
iron bender Posted August 6, 2023 #2 Posted August 6, 2023 Colt '03' in .38. Nice holster! That's my opinion. That long skinny barrel profile....
semperbee Posted August 6, 2023 Author #3 Posted August 6, 2023 iron bender I believe you are correct. Dug out my copy of "US Military Holsters & Related Accoutrements" and took a good look and it's a .38 Caliber Double-Action Revolver Holster, Fifth Type for the 1892 Colt .38 revolver. Rock Island made 14,223 russet .38 holsters in 1909 according the record chart in the book.
