The father who served in Europe brought back the Luftwaffe lantern and the father in law the Philippines who boxed a Japanese bayonet as well as capturing a helmet.

He probably had some time on his hands but not only that he gave it a nice coat of shellac too, love it when they do that.

The soldier's name and some words are written inside the helmet.

The soldier's name is "Nakagawa(中川)".

Next to it is the word "homare(ほまれ)" and the character "ri(リ)" surrounded by a circle.

 

"homare" means honor, but I have no idea what the specific intent was.
